This year, fans of the FIFA franchise are in for a surprise. For over two decades, soccer fans have relished FIFA, a game series made possible by the amicable partnership between EA Sports and FIFA. FIFA, also known as FIFA Football, gained a listing in the Guinness World Record as the best-selling sports video game globally.

However, last year, the two announced the end of their partnership, which will be actualized in the summer of 2023. The game series will now have the title EA Sports FC. Ideally, the partnership was meant to meet its untimely end after the World Cup in 2022. However, the two parties agreed to retain their partnership until the end of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

As devastating as this news is to the gaming industry, we're elated and anxious about the game's rebranding. Aside from the name change, various elements of EA Sports FC will differ from FIFA. Will the tweaks exceed our expectations, or will we still long for the FIFA we've grown fond of? Here's a comparative insight into FIFA vs EA Sports FC.

What is FIFA?

FIFA is a large-selling sports game franchise published by EA Sports and developed by EA Canada. In the history of sports gaming, no other game comes close to FIFA. The video game series entices its fan base due to its incredible surrealism and keen attention to detail. Players can engage in matches as their favorite football players, leagues, and clubs. Moreover, you can also build your dream team thanks to FIFA Ultimate Team.

The FIFA franchise came to the limelight in 1993. It is the only video game series with an official license from FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). Since its debut, the franchise has released 30 games, with FIFA 23 being the final game under the EA Sports and FIFA partnership. Undeniably, each release draws a boatload of excitement with improved graphics quality and gameplay.

Moreover, the game features legendary club and league players. In FIFA 23, the franchise highlights Kylian Mbappe, Sam Kerr, and Paris- Saint-Germain as the faces of the game.

Furthermore, the FIFA game franchise is available in over 51 countries and features more than 17 languages. The most popular FIFA series ever sold is FIFA 12. The game amassed $186 million in revenue after selling over 3.2 million copies in the first week.

What is EA Sports FC?

EA Sports FC is a rebrand of the famous FIFA game from Electronic Arts (EA Sports). The game will be available in late 2023. The rebranding comes after two franchises, EA Sports and FIFA, ended their contracts in May 2022. The curtain call on the partnership comes after EA Sports declined FIFA's requirement to pay a hefty sum of over $1 billion for the official license.

In response, EA Sports is venturing to have its own sports game with the promise of retaining the key elements that saw the game rise to fame. Ironically, despite the license granting EA Sports the right to make FIFA games, the developers cite that it is an impediment to the future of football gaming. In a statement, Andrew Wilson, EA CEO, said, “As we've looked to the future, we want to grow the franchise, and ironically, the FIFA license has actually been an impediment to that.”

Dubbed the Future of Interactive Football by the publisher, EA Sports ambitiously describes that they're ready to scale the global football experiences to new heights. Moreover, amidst the rebranding, EA Sports talks of introducing a change that will revolutionize a player's gaming experience.” This new independent platform will bring fresh opportunities – to innovate, create and evolve. This is much more than just a change of symbol – as EA SPORTS, we're committed to ensuring EA SPORTS FC is a symbol of change.”

What are the Main Differences Between EA Sports FC and FIFA?

Evidently, the apparent difference between the two games lies in the title. With FIFA 23 as the final game under the FIFA and EA Sports partnership, EA Sports' new game will have the title EA Sports FC. It seems that the split between the two parties is a hurrah moment for EA Sports since the franchise cites innovative and creative freedom as a core element in their upcoming games.

Game Modes

FIFA Vs EA Sports FC

EA Sports FC promises to retain its game modes, including Skill Games, Practice Arena, Career Mode, Kick-Off, Tournaments, Pro-Clubs, Seasons, and VOLTA Football. However, the long-awaited online Career Mode could soon make its way to EA Sports' new title.

Furthermore, EA Sports FC will include the Ultimate Team feature that is unique to the franchise. With no ties to FIFA, we may see the inclusion of women's career modes and female players. Although, FIFA 23 attempts gender inclusion by having Sam Kerr, Chelsea's Wommen forward, on the game's front cover.

Football Teams

FIFA Vs EA Sports FC

Despite the falling out with FIFA, EA Sports still has solid backing from other partners, including the Bundesliga, La Liga, UEFA, NIKE, and CONMEBOL. The franchise will have a unique licensing portal featuring 19,000+ players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums, and 30 leagues.

Comparatively, for a long time, FIFA has had the upper hand in featuring real stadiums and players, creating a surreal experience for its fans.

FIFA Vs EA Sports FC: Which is Better?

FIFA Vs EA Sports FC

In hindsight, EA Sports promised to break the barriers of football gaming and innovatively create a new experience. We've witnessed other franchises, such as PES, trying to outcompete FIFA but still falling short. Having played a crucial role in the development of previous FIFA games, we anticipate that EA Sports' upcoming title will blow us away. Features such as deliberate fouls and the dive button could make a comeback, which we assume are some of the “impediments” EA Sports was referring to.

Notwithstanding, now that the train wheels are off, FIFA will continue with the series. Will they still live up to the legacy?

The football organization, FIFA, has announced that the first games that will use its branding after ending its partnership with EA will be Web 3.0 blockchain games. FIFA revealed that four games are in development ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The organization has unveiled a portfolio of new web 3.0 games with a futuristic aim to entertain and engage a larger audience ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The four games are all blockchain-based, and according to a statement from FIFA, they were created with “the future of digital engagement in mind.”

FIFA Announces 4 New Blockchain Games Following the End of EA Partnership

The first game in the series is AI League: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition. Altered State Machine developed the game. It is a 4-on-4 casual football game played between AI-controlled characters, with player interaction. Players will take on the role of coaches to offer advice. Additionally, players can collect and trade characters.

The second game is FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Uplandme Metaverse. The game is a collaboration between FIFA and Uplandme. In Upland, a “blockchain-based metaverse,”  users may purchase and trade virtual real estate using the blockchain. Players can also gather official and authentic FIFA World Cup digital assets, which include famous video highlights from the tournament.

Matchday Challenge: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition is a card game where players pool their resources to make group predictions. Players can get Matchday player cards with real professional players' images, names, and statistics.  The fourth game, Phygti, is an app that is a  digital reward generator. The app will allow participants to record and keep their most treasured experiences from the FIFA World Cup forever. It is a great way to remember the 2022 tournament forever.

These are FIFA's first gaming-related endeavors since the end of its long-term partnership with EA in May. FIFA 23 was the final EA Sports game to bear the FIFA logo. EA announced it would rebrand the game to “EA Sports FC” starting next year.

What is your take? What do you think about the four games that FIFA has announced? Do you look forward to playing them? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.

EA Sports has signed a multi-year partnership with Spain's top football league, LaLiga.

The partnership deal will see EA Sports become the main sponsor of the Spanish football league. Therefore, the video game publisher will replace Santander as the league's principal sponsor.  Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the biggest football clubs in the league.

According to a statement from EA, the deal includes “title-naming rights for all LaLiga competitions” and a “complete rebrand of LaLiga with EA Sports, including all logos, graphics, fonts and other visual elements.” The sponsorship contract will reportedly cost EA €30 million per year.

The partnership will commence at the beginning of the 2023–24 season and change the league's name to LaLiga EA Sports. In a statement, LaLiga reveals the league's desire and interest to “truly immerse fans in the world of football” in both virtual and real-world settings.

EA announced in May that its partnership with FIFA was coming to an end after 30 years. LaLiga also confirmed it ended its partnership with Santander last month. Previously, EA detailed how the FIFA licensing agreement prohibited it from bringing in new commercial partners. In addition, the agreement restricted the publisher from creating environments where soccer fans could watch and create content.

After splitting from the FIFA brand, EA Sports' first football game is due in 2023. Therefore, the new sponsorship arrangement will be crucial for Electronic Arts' brand development. EA's football titles will be rebranded as EA Sports FC after the release of FIFA 23 later this year.

Despite losing the FIFA brand, the company believes its games will not be significantly different. In May, the publisher stated that EA Sports FC will have the same incredible experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs, and athletes as EA Sports.

It's a known fact that the online world doesn't exactly run on sunshine and rainbows. Needless to say, we've seen our fair share of toxic communities in online multiplayer games just as much as the next casual gamer. It's built into the blood of nearly every PvP game in existence, and it's an obstacle nobody can really avoid. It's a hostile playground, and toxicity, whether we like it or not, comes with the territory.

Just last year, a survey shed light on the most toxic video games of 2021. To our surprise, the titles we assumed were strewn with kind-hearted folk ended up being the weightiest anchors. Today, the standings remain motionless, meaning the developers have done little to abolish the harassment that plagues the lobbies. And if you're curious to know which games still bear the lead paperweights, then allow us to clue you in. Here are the most toxic gaming communities right now.

5. League of Legends

League of Legends may hold its own as one of the most successful battle arena games ever conceived, but that doesn't alter the fact that its online community is littered with power-hungry trolls. This has been the case ever since it first came about in 2009, and not a great deal has been done to fix it in, well, a decade. And that's a crying shame, as the game itself is booming with only the finest MOBA qualities.

Of course, any game with a global backing is sure to attract some level of unwanted attention. League, however, sports a lighthouse for a chassis, and it shows. The bottom line is, it's blinding toxicity is the reason for the rapid decline in new players. Riot Games, however, continue to let the ships plough into it, making weary tourists afraid to swim in its waters.

4. FIFA

fifa vs pes

FIFA has established itself as one of the most competitive video game series on the planet. But with great competition, however, comes an overwhelming amount of hot-headed players, many of whom use online matchmaking games to channel their anger. Because of this, the series has garnered a pretty poor reputation for being a stain on the sporting front.

For many, FIFA isn't just a game, but a portal to a whole other world. A world that, like most Esports games, revolves around leaderboards and statistics. It's a means to an end for some, which of course makes the pressure of winning a whole lot higher. Still, it doesn't excuse the questionable behaviour that many players sport. And the fact is, newcomers would much rather stay away from the big leagues than entertain them.

3. Call of Duty: Vanguard

Call of Duty is notorious for having one of the worst player bases in gaming, something that is exacerbated by the savage Esports events that are anything but friendly. Vanguard really is no different, which is a hard pill to swallow given the fact that fans of the series have been hounding its makers to banish the toxicity for a fair few years now.

The fact is, Vanguard retains the lion's share of the bitter critiques, with reports of harassment, threats, and cyber bullying forever making rounds all over the globe. For these reasons, a rough 42% of players either abandon the game altogether, or revert back to the game's offline campaign to get their kicks. But tell us one soul who buys Call of Duty for its campaign mode. It's predominantly online, as it always has been, which is why it's all the more frustrating that nothing is being done to squeeze the severs of all its toxicity.

2. Dota 2

If you're wanting to stream an engaging Esport, then you needn't look any further than Dota 2 to get your quality fix. As it's played by some of the industry's biggest pro gamers, its frequent tournaments often boast ludicrously high prize pools. Sure enough, that's why the vast majority tune in: to see which team conquers the monopoly and claims the lion's share of the score. But playing it for yourself, on the other hand, is a different story, and not a kind-hearted one, either.

Of course, it's no secret that Dota 2 is an incredibly demanding game. This harsh learning curve, though, has led to some players using competitors as virtual punching bags in the heat of the moment. And if there's one thing Dota 2 isn't short on—it's moments. It's a playground flooded with a lot of amped up players, and it isn't very often you'll be greeted with praise and polite conversation.

1. Valorant

valorant 2022

Well, there you have it; Valorant, the most toxic video game community of 2022. Unfortunately, this isn't the first strike for Riot Games' free-to-play first-person shooter. In fact, surveys considered the game the most toxic of not only 2020, but 2021, too. For this, a hat trick has officially been scored, making it one of the most toxic communities to ever embrace the system.

So, what's Riot Games doing to prevent the rapid incline in toxicity? Well, a few bits and pieces, really. Though, going by a report made a little while back, Valorant muted 400,000 players, and served up 40,000 bans. And that was just the statistics from a single month alone. Today, the developer continues to battle the brutal community by implementing automatic detection systems in each session. And it works, for the most part, anyway. Nevertheless, it is still considered a worldwide issue among gamers, giving Riot Games and its moderators one heck of a headache.

EA Sports has officially announced the FIFA 23 Release Date and a collection of other features for the first time.

EA also released the official trailer alongside the release date news, promising the most realistic and thrilling FIFA game. The official trailer reveals a slew of new features and details available in FIFA23. The news comes after weeks of anticipation and suspense. FIFA23 marks EA's final foray into the FIFA-branded football series. Earlier this year, reports revealed that FIFA is ending a 30-year collaboration with EA.

This year's FIFA title will feature both men's and women's FIFA World Cup modes for the first time. Two women's leagues will be available at launch; the Barclays Women's Super League in England and Division 1 Arkema in France.

The publisher also announced that FIFA 23 supports crossplay in 1v1 mode only. Players from the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, as well as the PS4 and Xbox One, will be able to play together.

The Hypermotion 2 Technology

For FIFA 23, HyperMotion, which was present in FIFA 22, has undergone a significant overhaul and is now dubbed HyperMotion 2. According to EA, the improved HyperMotion 2 has “over 600 authentic animations taken from millions of frames of advanced match capture”.

Fifa 23 Release Date and Early Access Date

FIFA23 will launch on Friday, September 30, 2022, around the world. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Serie S, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. And as is the norm, EA will release the game on the last Friday of September.

It's also worth noting that those who purchase the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition will receive early access to the game. You will access the game three days early on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, if you pre-order the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23.

Earlier in the week, the publisher revealed Paris Saint-Kylian Germain's Mbappe and Chelsea Women's Sam Kerr as the FIFA 23 cover stars.

Electronic Arts is rumored to be announcing several new titles in July. Reports say that the company plans to reveal three major games in July.

Tom Henderson, a reputable insider, claims that EA will reveal FIFA, Need for Speed, and Skate games. According to Henderson, EA will announce the games individually. However, he did not give any specific dates. He also mentioned that his sources assured him that EA would announce FIFA and Need for Speed in the second half of July.

EA previously confirmed that it will not host EA Play Live in 2022. The company claims it would only reveal their game releases at the appropriate time and  “when they're ready” throughout the year.

EA first revealed Skate during the EA Play online presentation in June 2020. The company confirmed that the project was still in the early stages. Codemasters, which EA recently acquired, is currently working on the Need for Speed title in collaboration with Criterion.

Tom Henderson's report on Exputer gives more details on FIFA 23. EA plans to bring cross-play functionality to FIFA 23, which the developer already tested in FIFA 22. The developer has already confirmed that the game will feature leagues and world cups for both men and women. Exputer's article also indicates that the game would not be free-to-play, despite recent speculations to the contrary on the internet.

The Last FIFA Game

Fans and players are anticipating FIFA 23, considering it is the last EA game to feature the brand name FIFA. EA will, however, continue to produce and publish soccer games in the coming year under the brand “EA Sports FC.” EA has been releasing soccer games under the brand name FIFA since 1993. FIFA will be parting ways with EA after the new game's release and transfer the franchise name to a new firm. As of now, we have no idea who will be developing the game in the future. There have been speculations that the football governing body may be looking to join up with Konami.

What’s your take? What are your thoughts on Electronic Arts new releases in July? Are you looking forward to FIFA 23? What new features do you hope EA will implement? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.

Electronic Arts FIFA series and Konami’s PES have been around for decades and have constantly provided the best sports gaming experience to their respective audiences. Both are inspired by football leagues that have been played by International football teams over the years. Throughout this time, the two have been in competition over the development of the best football video games in the world.

However, despite the rivalry, FIFA and PES developers have much more in common in their production than one would think. They both try to cater to their fan bases in various ways. To highlight some of the differences and similarities they share, this article compares two of the most successful football games. That said, let's dive in, FIFA vs PES, which one is the best?

What is FIFA?

FIFA is a video game series that is published by Electronic Arts (EA) and developed by EA Canada. FIFA games are released annually, with the latest one being FIFA 22. Their games are accessible to over 51 countries worldwide and usually feature over 17 different languages. The FIFA series launched in 1993 and was the first game to be granted a license from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association [FIFA], the official governing body for international football. The game series features in the Guinness World Record for being the best-selling sports video game franchise in the world.

It is easy to recognize that even in the beginning, FIFA was already stridden ahead of PES. This is perhaps why FIFA obtained more licenses in comparison to its rivals. The licenses obtained include permits for stadiums, players and their respective clubs. This helps guarantee the production of realistic football games; since users prefer playing with real characters, they are familiar with and can relate to. That and various other aspects are what make FIFA a remarkable series. In terms of sales, FIFA is ahead of PES, although the latter has always been regarded as the better game. Nonetheless, it may still have a long way to go before it achieves the same commercial effect as FIFA.

What is PES?

Pro Evolution Soccer [PES] is a video game series that is published by Konami and developed by PES Productions. PES games are released annually, with the latest one being PES 2021. In these games, players compete in leagues with the leading team of their choice. PES is one of the biggest sports video game series worldwide. It is also one of the best-selling sports video game brands today, having made over 400 million downloads on mobile and sold over a hundred million copies across the world.

Much like FIFA, PES aspires to be as realistic as possible when it comes to depicting real-life football. Hence, the gameplay in its series is identical to association soccer, whereby players control either one player or a whole team. The ideas of the game also correspond with the rules and regulations of the football association. PES offers its customers a diverse gaming experience for both mobile and console; players have access to several game modes, such as Offline, Online and Kick-Off. Similarly, players have various editing options that make the games more relatable. If not for insufficient licensing, the series would be more successful than it already is.

What are the Main Differences between FIFA and PES?

FIFA Vs PES, Which one is the Best

The most apparent difference between the two game brands is the time gap between the first launch of PES's first game and that of FIFA. This gave FIFA a chance to fully develop a fan base and perfect its products over the years.

However, PES was able to compete as they adopted much more diverse models in their gameplay compared to FIFA. Similarly, in terms of gameplay, most fans regard PES as more practical, whilst FIFA is considered more refined in design and presentation.

Graphics

This is one of the most noticeable differences between FIFA and PES. FIFA’s graphics have been consistently better than PES’s for a few years now. FIFA’s player models look more realistic and the stadiums are more accurately recreated in FIFA games. PES’s graphics have improved in recent years, but they still don’t match up to FIFA’s.

Game Play

The gameplay is where PES really excels. PES games have always had great gameplay, with players feeling more responsive and the controls feeling tighter than FIFA’s.

Game Modes

FIFA games have always had more features than PES games. The Career modes such as the Europa League and Champions League featured by FIFA have the liberty to be as authentic as possible with their gameplay.

Other various modes provided in FIFA games include Career Mode, Volta, Ultimate Team and Manager Mode. On the other hand, we have PES making the best of its various but limited modes which include Master League and myClub, which is the equivalent of FIFA's Ultimate Team mode.

Football Teams

For a long time, FIFA has enjoyed a monopoly in terms of real players, teams and stadiums. This has been a big factor in enhancing the game's realism in a way that PES is still trying to measure up to. They have unlimited access to players, logos and teams, making it easier to replicate the most realistic games possible. Hopefully, PES will be able to do the same, thanks to Juventus and various other teams who intend to exclusively grant them a license. Nonetheless, in this category, FIFA remains dominant.

Football Players

For PES, the player rosters are not as complete as players would wish them to be; these constraints not only go beyond teams but with players as well. However, PES has made progress in acquiring significant players like Messi so far, such that players will not experience as much difficulty when playing major leagues using international teams. As for FIFA, their advantage is apparent as all the divisions of players and their teams are accounted for.

FIFA vs PES: Which is Better?

fifa vs pes

The eternal question among football game fans on which is better between FIFA and PES is sometimes hard to answer. This is because both have their set of pros and cons. FIFA has been around for longer and is therefore more established. It has more licenses, meaning that it features more real-life teams and players. FIFA also boasts better graphics than PES. On the downside, FIFA can be quite buggy, and some new features don't always work as intended.

PES, on the other hand, is often seen as the more challenging game. It doesn't have as many licenses as FIFA, but it makes up for it with excellent gameplay. PES also has a more dedicated fan base, which means there's a thriving community of modders who create new teams and players.

The rumors and speculation about EA Sports FIFA changing its name struck true this morning. The popular soccer brand will no longer be known as EA Sports FIFA; instead, it will be known as EA Sports FC. While this year's title will remain FIFA 23, as per their agreement with EA, the new title, EA Sports FC, will arrive in 2023.

All of this stems from FIFA's October 2021 rights negotiations with EA Sports. With the main purpose of extending and developing the game to bullish and optimistic heights. At the time, FIFA commented that “The future of gaming and eSports for football stakeholders must involve more than one party controlling and exploiting all rights.”. With today's, May 10th announcement, FIFA looks to be getting precisely what they wanted. As noted in EA's blog post, the new collaboration with EA Sports comes with “300+ Licensing Partners Across the Sport to Build the Biggest Football Club in the World”.

The Future of FIFA

the future vision of FIFA is widely ambitious. “Our vision for EA SPORTS FC is to create the largest and most impactful football club in the world,” said Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson. Thank's to the new agreement, FIFA might be losing its name, but its acquisition will be granting players “access to more than 19,000 athletes across 700 teams, in 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world.” according to EA's post.

EA goes on to mention “EA has developed the most extensive and comprehensive network of partnerships and licenses in the sport,”. Some of these include Laliga, Bundesliga, MLS, UEFA, Series A, and CONMEBOL Libertadores. Also iconic leagues like EUFA Champions Leauge, EUFA Europa Leauge, and the Premier League, with more to be announced. Although one big name brand, Nike has already disclosed their partnership.

You'll be reluctant to hear that all of FIFA's core game modes will be transferring over to EA Sports FC. Which includes “experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, leagues, clubs and athletes,”. Not to mention Ultimate Team, career mode, Pro Clubs and Volta. With more information on the new EA Sports FC coming in the Summer of 2023.

Gran Turismo 7 was released today across the world. However, it is presently unavailable on the Russian PlayStation Store. According to sources, Sony made the choice not to sell the game in Russia on Thursday night. Though the firm is yet to formally comment on the game's removal from sale.

Sony has become the most high-profile games business to pull items from sale in Russia. This comes after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which started on February 24 with assistance from Belarus.

The statement “Release date pending confirmation” now appears on Gran Turismo 7's Russia store page.

The development comes as Ukraine puts pressure on Xbox and PlayStation to discontinue supporting Russian markets. Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister called on the companies to stop supporting their products in Russia and Belarus earlier this week.

Mykhailo Fedorov wrote an open letter to the platform owners. He requested the companies to block all Russian and Belarusian accounts. Additionally, he requested that the platforms temporarily bar the countries' teams and players from competing in any international esports competitions.

CD Projekt, the creator of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, halted sales of its products in Russia and Belarus on Thursday, including PC games published through GOG.

Meanwhile, EA has deleted all Russian teams from FIFA 22, as well as all Russian and Belarusian teams from NHL 22.

Ukraine-based Stalker 2 studio GSC Game said this week that it has put on hold the development of the game. This is due to Russia's invasion of its home country.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many firms in the gaming industry have made efforts to support the country. The creator of the anti-war game This War of Mine recently vowed to contribute a portion of the game's sales to the Ukrainian Red Cross, and John Romero, co-creator of Doom II, has built a new level for the game to generate money for Ukraine's war effort.

In a recently leaked comment of EA's CEO Andrew Wilson, EA plans to end its partnership deal with FIFA. According to the feedback directed to his staff members, Wilson pointed out that the agreement with FIFA was proving to be non-beneficial to Electronic Arts (EA.)

The CEO's remarks illustrate how uneconomical the licensing agreement with FIFA has been. He adds that FIFA becomes financially beneficial to them only every four years, during the world cup season. After that, Wilson comments,

“Basically, what we get from FIFA in a non-World Cup year is the four letters on the front of the box.”

The comment also indicated that the agreement with FIFA is highly restrictive to EA. The CEO maintains that some parts of the contract limit several aspects of EA's plans. Wilson's comments give an instance of the limitation; where he says that EA is not at liberty to “expand more deeply and broadly into the digital ecosystems around the fabric of football.”

EA says that the company has had several ideas to develop to meet their clientele needs, only to be shut down due to the FIFA arrangements. EA has been struggling to increase matches to go beyond 11v11. It has also been trying to strike partnerships with non-FIFA members in vain. A past report by the New York Times had shared an existing rivalry between EA and FIFA. The NYT further explained that EA was fighting to gain the rights to extend their actions and developments.

Even though EA refuses to comment after this leak, the comments foresee a rough spot within the partnership. The current contract binds the two companies until Qatar's world cup series. The world cup matches will run from November to December 18. Afterward, we hope to hear whether EA will decide to renew or seize the contract altogether.

So, what’s your take? Will EA dropping the FIFA tag cause any ripple effect?  Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.

Since the NHL video game series inception back in 1991 with the original NHL Hockey, gamers and hockey fans alike haven't been able to get enough of the fast-paced, hard-hitting, skill-based sports game that we know today. The hockey games genre has been conquered by EA, with 31 installments in the NHL video game series since 1991.

While hockey video games date back all the way to 1979 with Hockey!/Soccer!, the genre has seen many notable installments such as Slap Shot by Sega and Blades of Steel by Konami. Even 2K produced some notable NHL games, such as NHL 2K11.

With so many iterations of the game, it can be hard to single out the best ones, however, some gamers are still playing some of the classics today. Nonetheless, we are dying to know just as much as you what NHL games make the top five of all time.

5. NHL 2011

NHL 2011 paved a new path for the series with NHL Ultimate Team. With games like FIFA and Madden already having an Ultimate Team mode, it was about time NHL had one. The NHL Ultimate Team or also known in short as HUT allowed players to build their very own team. Players would then face off against one another in online matches and climb the HUT ranks. This opened a whole new aspect to grinding NHL games and is a huge reason for the game's popularity today.

Mechanically, NHL 2011 revolutionized how we played the game today with its revolutionary physics-based game engine. This gave a more realistic and responsive feeling to the game and opened up what players could do on the ice. New features such as the hip-check would send players hurling over one another. Skill plays were more successful and easier pulled off using the right joystick in charge for stickhandling and dekeing. Goals could be scored not just in the offensive zone, but from all areas of the ice, prompting the signature goalie goal.

4. NHL Hitz (2003)

The game of hockey is generally viewed as a wildly fast-paced sport with bone-crushing collisions; NHL Hitz took that concept to the extreme. The arcade-style 3-on-3 hockey game had no rules, no penalties — just chaotic action-packed plays. Big hits would send players flying through the glass and into the stands, and the play wouldn't stop. Power-ups added to the intensity of scoring goals and players would even catch on fire when they were performing well. You could handle the puck and score goals with your goalie, and even the fighting was a mini-game in itself.

It takes an exaggerated approach to back and forth hockey, that never really lost its entertainment value. To this day, it's a staple in the NHL series, and holds some of the fondest NHL game memories for any hockey game fan. If I could, I would round up my ten best buds and have a night of endless fun and pure chaos provided by NHL Hitz.

3. NHL 2004

A big part of NHL 2004's success is credited to the improvements EA made to the “Dynasty” mode. It gave a more realistic feeling to becoming a GM and carrying your team to the Stanley Cup. This was also the first time that an NHL game had added a cutscene after winning the Stanley Cup. It's a replica of real-life Stanley Cup celebrations with players hoisting the cup and getting an iconic team photo. NHL 2004 created an atmosphere unlike any other game, and the music played a big role in this. The NHL 2004 soundtrack is widely viewed as the best soundtrack across all the games in the series.

All these features made NHL 2004 stand out and make a top three podium finish on this list. Another reason it stands out as one of the best is that there's still a community of PC gamers keeping the game alive. Modders have been updating the original game for PC just about every year since it came out. Back in 2016, it was reported that there was still a community of about 10,000 to 15,000 people playing NHL 2004 on PC. I think it's safe to say that, if the game can still be enjoyed 12 years after its release, then it goes down as one of the best hockey games of all time.

2. NHL 2014

NHL 2014 is widely regarded as the last good-running NHL game for a good list of reasons. The game implemented one-touch dekes, which were easier to execute and flashier when successfully done. It was also the first time the game implemented dynamic ratings, which based players' in-game ratings of real-world performance. The Be a GM & GM Connected modes were as advanced as they had ever been, offering players a mass amount of customization. The Live the Life mode also simulated events for your pro player off the ice. Media interviews, fan interactions, and endorsements offered a more dynamic role-playing experience in playing your career out.

A big part of the game's success is due to adding online seasons to HUT and EA SHL modes. This has now trickled to today where there are professional leagues and gamers for online NHL games. Gamers could also play NHL '94 with the NHL '94 Anniversary mode for the game's 20th anniversary. This gave lots of nostalgia to what many players regard as the best NHL game of all time. NHL 2014 really offered the most out of any game before it, and its success led it to win Best Sports Game at E3 in 2013.

1. NHL '94

Fans of the NHL series often debate that NHL 14 and NHL 2004 are the greatest hockey games of all time, surpassing NHL '94 for some. For me, it's an easy choice that NHL'94 takes the top podium spot. This is because NHL '94 isn't just viewed as one of the best hockey games of all time, but one of the best sports games of all time. Even back in 2005, IGN named it #47 in its list of top 100 games of all-time. That is to just mention one award from an impressively long list.

The added game modes and mechanics that made NHL '94 stand out in its time may be a little outdated today. Despite this, players never seem to lose their enjoyment. There is an undying love for this game with tons of communities that still hold events. It appears players just aren't ready for the game to die out yet, even 28 years after its release. I think NHL '94 is a perfect example that you don't need the fanciest graphics or craziest mechanics for players to fall in love with a game.

Rage. We've all felt it at some point or another. We've also felt the sheer annoyance from having to stitch ourselves back together for yet another swing at the gloating hurdle. But that's a major part of gaming; we win battles and we lose them. We cherish adventures, but we also despise them just when the going gets tough. That's video games for you, I guess.

Of all the games we've raged quit in the past, some have just plainly refused to take flight from our angriest memories. Like sticky black tar smothered over a perfectly healthy brain — they hold their place and remind us of all the times we lost our cool and threw in the towel in blood-curdling rage. Looking back, these five probably had us losing it the most.

5. For Honor

YouTube Video

If it wasn't for the incredibly harsh learning curve and unforgiving combat system, sure, For Honor might've been slightly more accepting of all kinds of players. But alas, thanks to its hostile nature, players are forced to either thrash it out and hope to see the other side where, let's face it — the game becomes a lot more enjoyable. Or, failing that, then quit in a heartbeat, bidding your time with the violent title a sour farewell.

For Honor pits you against some of the toughest foes on the battlefield, with little to no reward for failure. Before choosing your faction, having four to choose from, you're expected to go through one heck of a training montage before being able to employ the mechanics in your favour. Until that moment of acceptance falls upon you, however, you're pretty much expected to die, die — and die again. So, a rage quit here or there isn't all that uncommon with Ubisoft's devious little fighter.

4. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

YouTube Video

Coming from the makers of some of the toughest games to ever release in the last decade (Souls, Bloodborne), it was only natural for developer FromSoftware to follow up with something just as challenging — just to maintain that incredibly feared calibre. Lo and behold, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice emerged from the churned oily waters of their shallow grave plot, resurrecting yet another death-bringer to its petrified audience.

While Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a great game on the surface, it does like to push a few of our buttons with its harsh combat and overpowering foes. But like its sibling franchises, it requires perseverance in order to beat — let alone master. And that's where we find ourselves slaving over a pad for days, just in the hopes that, with enough patience, we'll finally be able to progress just a smidgen en route to the grand finale. Getting to that climax, however, is a whole lot of trial and error. And quitting, of course. There's plenty of that, and then some.

3. Minecraft

Coming off the back end of FromSoftware's rugged action chapter, it almost feels as if putting Minecraft in the next spot is a step in the complete wrong direction. And yet, here we are, about to pin the lovely little sandbox flick on our list of most rage-inducing video games ever developed. But then, weirdly, it sort of makes sense when you think about it.

Picture this: you've just spend hours neglecting your outside world, desperate to finish construction on your most ambitious design to date. You apply the finishing touches and settle in for the first night in your newly-erected kingdom, and then, out of the blue — a creeper knocks you off your high horse, rendering you both speechless and without so much as a crate to call your own. You're forced to start over, with absolutely squat to your name. Congratulations, you've officially been shafted. Welcome to Minecraft, people. We hate it here.

2. FIFA

There's honestly no other sports game on the market that has developed anywhere near as much of an angry player base as EA's notorious FIFA. But given its number of cutthroat communities and professional eSports teams — rage quitting just sort of comes naturally to most who decide to brave its toxic waters. And to think — sports are supposed to bring us, as people, closer together as a species. Only, try telling that to the millions of casual gamers all scraping together the remains of their shattered controllers. They'll likely tell you otherwise.

Whether it's a 90-minute winning goal or an immediate hat-trick right off the bat, FIFA matches rarely ever consist of two joyous teams with a happy-go-lucky approach to winning and losing. They just sort of, well, hate each other. But that's just FIFA for you, I guess. Everyone loves the game, enough to buy it every year, though they basically despise anyone else who dares touch it. It's a weird community, I can't explain it.

1. Call of Duty

Take any Call of Duty entry you want. Chances are, nine out of ten online lobbies you encounter will result in players rage quitting and slating everyone else in the room. But that isn't to say a quality game can't be enjoyed every once in a while. It's just that, well, people take Call of Duty quite seriously, and if things happen to go rogue then, as an onlooker — you'll be the first to know the consequences.

Of all the multiplayer games in the world, Call of Duty has the highest number of daily rage quits, with games forever having to swap rosters over hot-headed players losing their cool and abandoning the objective part way through. And it's usually because of things like being victimised to a good old fashioned camping, being bludgeoned from the darkness — or being sniped from the other end of the map…through a solid wall. It all adds up, and it's essentially why players prefer to rage quit than enrol for another round. That's Call of Duty for you. Still, it doesn't stop fans from picking up the latest copy whenever they come knocking.

EUFA EURO 2020 has reached its final leg, with England and Italy meshing together for the final match this Sunday. And with that, what better way to glorify the grand final than to chip in our two cents from a gamer's point of view? With heaps of video games that mould together to form some of the best physics, management and online tournaments, it really is no surprise that the whole world tunes in to gel with the collective.

Whether it's the strategising elements that make you tick or the frontlines where every weaved pass rests on your conscience — football has a little something for everyone. And, you don't even have to be a whizz-kid in the sport to find fame on the pitch, either. All you really need is a pad, a port — and a platform to hone your skills. So, without further ado — let's talk video games, plain and simple. What's the best on the market — and what should you be playing this week to celebrate EUFA EURO 2020?

5. Rocket League

YouTube Video

Okay, so before we go diving into the stadium and the literal side of football, we thought we'd share a game that happens to be one of the best spins on the celebrated sport as a whole. Rocket League, for those who haven't played it yet (though that seems incredibly unlikely given its popularity), is a fast-paced competitive title that weaves rocket-powered cars with football, clean and simple. The only real difference with Rocket League (other than having vehicles as the driving force for the premise) is that the ball is enormous, and the stadium allows its players to quite literally defy the rules of gravity. But besides that — there's two goals, two teams, and one aim. Simple.

Rocket League, although not strictly following the traditional style of gameplay one would expect from football, is unique on so many levels, with enough addictive gameplay to keep you trucking away for weeks on end. And as far as online play goes, Rocket League hosts some truly remarkable tournaments every day, with an entire eSports community and chunky prize pool to back it. What more could you possibly want? Well, genuine football, I suppose. But we'll get to that.

4. Football Cup 2021

YouTube Video

Drawing away from rocket-powered cars, Football Cup 2021 hones in on something a little more relevant: football, plain as daylight. And what's more, this fresh take on football also conveniently fits in your pocket, either on Switch or on mobile. So that's always a plus. Of course, this ambitious little underdog doesn't quite live up to the same level of greatness as other household names on the book — but it does boast plenty of captivating quirks that keep it split from the remainder of the pack — like the fact that it's free, for example.

Football Cup 2021 gives you everything you could possibly want from a pocket-sized port of a celebrated sport. Gameplay-wise, it's all there, and it's fluid enough to keep you trick shotting your way to victory as you ascend the league and cement your place among the greatest teams to ever kick the dirt with studded boots. And let's face it — that's all we can really ask from a game that quite literally asks for nothing in return. It's football, without the drivel to tarnish it. That's all.

3. Football Manager 2021

YouTube Video

If you've grown a little tired of the pitch and are wanting to hang up the boots for a while, then perhaps it's time to switch up your career on the field. Of course, you can still be in the heart of the game, with front row tickets to all the action one could possibly want from the sport — only you'll have more clipboards than crest-embroidered scarves to support your team. And if that is something you're keen to sink your teeth into — then you'll be pleased to know that Football Manager 2021 has the entire experience all compressed into one glorious package.

Similar to previous chapters in the Football Manager series, players can invest in the nooks and crannies of football with some of the most well-designed management systems ever produced for a video game. With the ability to control, evolve and lay the foundations for your team on a road to everlasting success, you too can harness attainment from behind the sidelines and iron tie. However, one mistake could very well cost you not only your future — but also the team that looks to you for guidance every step of the way, too. No pressure, though.

2. FIFA 21

YouTube Video

FIFA has been a strong candidate in the sporting world for many years — if not one of the best. While EA themselves refrain from tampering with the best selling formula that amasses mouth-watering figures with each release, they do like to keep players second-guessing. And as for FIFA 21, players are regularly treated with a variety of updates, some of which range from new players to new boots. But that's merely the frosting on the cake. The point is — FIFA is still very much riddled with content, despite its rather predictable pipeline of annual titles.

As well as boasting the usual career mode that allows you to rise through the ranks from rookie dribbler to an idolized striker, FIFA 21 also chips in another series of game modes; FIFA Ultimate Team being a prominent one that millions of players still congregate around to test their knowledge and skill. As well as that, VOLTA Football also plays a huge role in the latest instalment, with a neat storyline that draws the focus away from the stadium and onto the street, where a spool of challenges and nutmegs urge to be conquered. Yes, like FIFA Street — only bigger. And better.

1. eFootball PES 2021

YouTube Video

While the feud between FIFA and PES has been ongoing for several years, one division does seem to surpass the other by leaps and bounds with each passing instalment. Of course, it's arguable that PES 2021 is far more superior than the latest FIFA chapter, though, for the purpose of this list, the former definitely captures the spirit of the Euros — particularly with the EUFA EURO 2021 mode, which was introduced especially to celebrate the event.

Of course, PES 2021 does compress a lot more in its casing than the season update and official Euro mode. And as far as stellar football video games go — PES Productions definitely brings it home with the most realistic physics the community has ever grasped. Challenge-wise, it's a couple of notches above FIFA and other rivals under the same category, though winning tougher matches does ultimately result in heavier rewards, of course. And that's something PES 2021 never usually ever runs short on, to be honest.

EA Sports has been knocking out yearly FIFA chapters for well over twenty years now. Twenty years, and it's unlikely that the publisher will ever put a freeze on that routine or even let it simmer. I mean, with the amount of money that flows into the football series, it's understandable as to why EA keep breathing life into the franchise without so much as batting an eyelid. And it pretty much goes without saying, but the competitive counterpart is definitely a large portion of that ongoing success.

FIFA, in a nutshell, hasn't really changed a great deal since its 1993 debut. Of course, in terms of visuals, it has become quite the marvel, and each entry does tend to role in a slew of major hotfixes and enhanced mechanics. And then, of course, there's the gameplay itself, which is most definitely at its peak with the latest instalment in the timeline. So, by putting the two together, it's clear to see how FIFA, as a platform, has managed to gather such a following over the decades. And as far as the eSports bond goes, well — it's not exactly close-knit. In fact, it's bigger, more extravagant, and even wealthier than ever.

5 Best FIFA Betting Sites

FIFA: In a Nutshell

FIFA, or Federation Internationale de Football Association, if you want to get technical, is a football series that boasts both compelling offline career modes as well as a cutting-edge online front. With the biggest and most celebrated teams backing the roster, FIFA fuses both real-life leagues and players into its core — and then some. However, when it comes to the bulk of the series, the majority is taken up by the enormous online community and the many tournaments that are held annually.

While FIFA hasn't changed a great deal over the last two decades, the cherished series does pull in some rather remarkable numbers with each passing instalment. With FIFA 21 currently racking up millions of active players and an even wealthier online front, the game, in a nutshell, has definitely hit an all-time high as the most prominent chapter in the timeline to date.

YouTube Video

Matches Explained

Rather than having a single player for each footballer on the field, FIFA pits just two gamers with the whole squad being controlled accordingly. Depending on who has possession of the ball, the player will automatically be assigned to the one controlling them. Of course, a match lasts 90 minutes, although, in the competitive world, this is crunched down to just 12 minutes (6 minutes per half). Furthermore, a typical tournament will use the Legendary setting for most matches, meaning all idle players will hone a higher skill level. The team with the most goals before the whistle blows wins the match. But you probably knew that already.

Typically, eSports events will host 1v1 matches, with the best player advancing up the ranks accordingly. However, 2v2 games aren't exactly unheard of either, although they are somewhat limited and seen as a rarity at most globally recognised competitions. And so, with that, FIFA tends to put all of its focus on solo players, with the odd exception for a slightly bigger roster every now and then.

The Platforms

Although FIFA 21 did launch on PC as well as consoles, eSports events do tend to favour the Microsoft or Sony domains for their tournaments. Of course, due to the ongoing pandemic palaver, most tournaments are held online through one of the many streaming platforms. With that, all participants are expected to submit either an official Gamertag or PSN ID, along with the appropriate EA Account before entering any level of competition.

Online bouts set aside, EA has been known to host quite the selection of events all around the world. And while the console versions are the focal point for the eSports platform, PC users have been known to soak up the odd tournament win. As it stands, however, PlayStation and Xbox users benefit from the endless spool of events EA flush out each year.

Of course, FIFA tournaments do funnel into enormous physical events on a yearly basis.

Tournaments & Prize Pools

While FIFA doesn't dare to touch the sky-high figures that the likes of Dota 2 hit on a regular basis, EA does tend to pour quite a lot of coin into their official events. Of course, we're mainly pinning the main event as FIFAe World Cup, which only recently funnelled around $4.35 million into its latest spool. On average, however, local tournaments will serve up relatively small prize pools, with some barely reaching the quadruple digits at all.

For 2021, FIFA has established some truly incredible local gatherings with plenty of raw competition to boot. Of course, the prize pools aren't exactly hitting mouth-watering figures, though the community surrounding the franchise doesn't seem to be too money-hungry, to begin with. Understandably, being a rather tight clique, both professional and rookie players in the FIFA universe aren't driven by the prize — but more the bragging rights and reputation alone. That being said, the odd hefty sum of winnings never really goes amiss, either.

What other FIFA tournaments are there?

While the FIFAe World Cup is seen as the go-to tournament within the competitive domain, EA has also spread its influences over a series of other competitions. For the full details behind EA's kingdom of FIFA sessions, you can flick through the details in the links below.

Stacking Against the Odds

Having millions of professional players around the globe, it's not exactly a simple task to pluck out the guaranteed winners at an eSports match. That being said, with only one player controlling an entire team and not eleven unique members panning the entire squad, it does make it a little less complicated. Of course, as with any competitive event — research is key. And luckily for fans of the series, statistics are uploaded regularly to eCharts, meaning you can get the full scoop behind each match and player at the click of a button.

On top of the standard figures that flow into the database, FIFA is best uncovered through physically playing the game. Arguably, the best practice for knuckling down on all things FIFA is to pick up a copy and spend some time with its physics. By understanding the movements of the players, the rules of the game, and the many tactics that the opposing teams possess — placing that first bet can be a whole lot less stressful. Of course, chewing through an ocean of Twitch streams isn't a bad idea, either. Even watching old tournaments that have come and gone can give you a major advantage for upcoming matches. In other words — just live and breathe FIFA until you're practically coughing up facts and figures.

FIFA has become one of the most-watched eSports in the world.

EA has finally revealed the date for their annual showcase, EA Play Live. Similar to previous years, the gaming giant will host the showcase shortly after E3, which they've skipped for a number of years now.

On June 22nd, EA will promote their latest works and sink into the details surrounding the ventures. With news expected to surface on the Skate reboot, Dragon Age 4, and perhaps a deeper look into Battlefield 6, it's looking to be an enticing showcase all around.

What else is in store for EA Play Live 2021?

Earlier this week, EA teased a Battlefield 6 update via a tweet, which was pointing towards a June reveal. Now, whether or not the secured date of EA Play Live will change that is somewhat unclear. That said, it is likely that EA will use both months to escalate the hype for the upcoming instalment.

On top of the headlining titles that are expected to showcase at the event next month, EA Play Live will also be digging a little deeper into some of their third-party originals, as well as the spool of sporting games they aim to put out each year. Of course, that means FIFA, Madden NFL and UFC are most likely going to have a dedicated spot in the presentation. However, EA has yet to confirm the full details behind the event, which means we'll have to keep second-guessing for the next two months.

Similar to 2020, EA Play Live will likely resort to using the online domain to present their work. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, it's looking as though a physical event is far beyond reach any time soon. And so, with that, it's fair to say that the event will probably drop on the likes of Twitch and other streaming platforms. But we'll keep an eye on the updates should anything miraculously change before July. Here's hoping.

EA Play Live will take place on June 22nd.
