Several new games are released every day on App Store and Google Play. Usually, players try them and decide whether to continue playing them or not. The mobile games space has evolved and grown manifold over the past few years. And today, we have some iconic games that are popular and enjoy an active user base even today.

As per a Sensor Tower report, mobile games across the globe generated a whopping  $6.8 billion. This includes games from Google Play as well as App Store. Interestingly, 2 of the top 5 biggest games are from Tencent.

PUBG Mobile features a battle royale experience where the players are dropped on an island where they are supposed to collect loot, kill opponents and win the game as the lone survivor.

Developed by Roblox Corporation, this game is another title on the list of the top 10 highest-grossing games on Android and iOS. The platform allows players to develop and program their own games and interact with games created by others. The game creation platform has topped the charts during the pandemic and continues to grow.

To design your game on Roblox, the platform offers its own engine, the Roblox Studio. The coding portion is based on a programming language called Lua, an Object Oriented Programming Language. Roblox also involves in-game microtransactions in the form of ‘game passes’.

A striking fact about Roblox is that most of the games on the platform are created by teens and younger people. In August 2020, most of the Roblox users were American children aged below 16

‘Roblox' in itself is not a game. Rather, it is a platform that lets users create games and/or play games created by other users. As Roblox is available across multiple platforms, it's easy to access and reaches a wider audience. Celebrities and music artists like Zara Larsson and Lil Nas X have hosted concerts in the Roblox, popularizing it more.

The list is based on revenue generated by the games in 2022. While listing, we used the Sensor Tower report and included the top-grossing games on Google Play, App Store, and overall revenue.

If there was ever a time to saddle up and embark on an epic quest from rags to riches, then this would be it. Thanks to the evolving world of Esports, professional gamers and their hard-working teams are now some of the richest people in the known world. But with great wealth, of course, comes a ludicrous amount of responsibility. Like, having to devote yourself to the grind day in, day out, just to obtain a few essential pockets of knowledge, for example.

It's no easy feat, becoming a pro gamer, and it's actually incredibly rare that you'll find a gamer that hasn't worked half of their life just to be where they are today, shrouded in prize money and bragging rights. But it's a worthy payoff, especially when you know what idles at the far end of the rainbow. And when we say worthy payoff, what we really mean is, we'd give a left leg just to get a glimpse of it. Just use these five cash-loving online games to whet your appetite, and you'll see what the fuss is all about.

5. Dota 2

It's no secret that Dota 2 is passively loved by pretty much anyone who steps within twenty feet of it. In fact, its popularity is so colossal, that its Esports tournament organizers have to fork out millions of dollars for prizes each passing year. And that's just The International, an event that pulls all of the best teams from around the world and pits them against one another. 2021 alone, believe it or not, awarded the team that scored first place a total of $18.2 million.

The reason for the ridiculously high stakes, of course, boils down to the complexity of the game itself. Although coined as a 5v5 RTS title that's easy to spectate, its mechanics, on the other hand, run a lot deeper, as does its extensive roster of playable heroes. Let it be told that understanding every nook and cranny behind it isn't an overnight process. But learn to master it, however, and you could wind up a million dollars richer. $18.2 million, apparently.

4. Fortnite

It's true, Fortnite has hosted its fair share of self-made millionaires over the years, many of whom have earned their fortune through simply winning a number of tournaments in the battle royale phenomenon. Winning big in one of Epic Games' events, of course, does often topple the $3 million marker, as few have gone on to prove since the game branched out to the Esports domain a little ways back.

Battle royale games have become all the rage these days, though nothing sticks as hard as the Epic Games entry. Fortnite is adored by millions, played by the vast majority of gamers, and used as grounds for competition more than any other game on the planet. But then, with such high prize pools, it really is no wonder so many flock to it to sharpen their skills for the main stage.

3. League of Legends

League of Legends certainly isn't light on complexities, which is why only a select few can understand it to its fullest extent and make money out of it. Although relatively easy to pick up from the outside looking in, playing the epic arena game does involve far more than a few run-of-the-mill tutorials. Mastering it, on the other hand, requires a loyal mind with utmost tenacity, which is why so many have faltered along the way.

Learning how to fend off some of the biggest teams in League of Legends can net you anywhere from a cool thousand to a whopping $3 million. Even taking part and coming dead last nets a team $30,000. So, well worth the price of admission, providing you don't mind embarking on a lengthy quest to master the craft beforehand.

2. Honor of Kings

YouTube Video

Honor of Kings may be a little dated compared to other games under the Esports banner, but that hasn't taken much of an effect on its reputation, seeing as tournaments are still very much alive and kicking seven years down the line. And as far as prize pools go, the battle arena title still boasts some of the loftiest scores to ever grace the platform—even in 2022.

The king of the MOBO faction here lies with none other than Honor of Kings, and for good reason. Not only does it garner a global backing, but also some pretty nifty prize pools, many of which have gone on to crush the $5 million-plus milestone. Just last year, QG Happy waltzed away with the grand prize of $3.2 million out of a $7 million pool for winning the Honor of Kings World Champion Cup. On that note, Honor of Kings outranks the majority of its MOBO rivals, setting a benchmark in the kingdom of Esports high rollers.

1. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

As much as we love Fortnite and all its cartoon-heavy antics, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds somehow just hits harder, particularly when it boils down to the gameplay itself. Opting for a realistic approach with a number of life-like qualities, the beloved battle royale entry employs the hearts of millions, making it one of the most successful online games on the market.

Speaking of Esports, though, the arena hit has been known to boast some pretty eye-watering prize pools in its time. For example, just last year the PUBG Global Invitational hosted 32 of the best teams on the block, three of which strolled away with a little over a million dollars in winnings. Now, if that isn't an incentive to pick up PUBG and take it for a spin, then we don't know what is.

Honor of Kings (also known as King of Glory) is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game you just might've heard of, depending on how well-travelled you are in the world of competitive gaming. But having said that, if the Chinese underdog has yet to ruffle a few feathers and pique your interest — then allow us to mould over the details to help bridge the gaps and complete the picture for you.

Starting off its expedition as a Chinese exclusive title, Honor of Kings found roots among millions of mainland players, with the opportunity to branch out to a global audience by 2015. Following on from its huge success, developer TiMi Studios developed an international adaptation of the game, titled “Arena of Valor”, which followed the same structure as the base game. However, for the sake of keeping the details in the same bubble — we'll be putting all of our attention on the flagship, Honor of Kings, with its 100 million player base.

Honor of Kings Betting Sites

Ready to take the dive and place a bet? These are the top esports betting platforms that offer Honor of Kings wagering opportunities.

Thunderpick – A top crypto betting platform that is a leader in esports betting.

BetUS – This is the top esports betting site for Canadian & USA players. (All other countries prohibited).

Honor of Kings: In a Nutshell

Similar to other MOBA games, Honor of Kings puts two teams against one another with one joint goal of destroying the opposing encampment, or, more specifically — the core building that idles in the centre of each complex. Standing between each camp, of course, lies a few clusters of turrets, as well as marching forces and general curveballs that each player can throw out to divide and conquer the board. And if you're thinking along the lines of League of Legends — then you're definitely in the right ballpark.

Apart from amassing enough forces to dominate the map, players must also accumulate experience in order to unlock new abilities and upgrade current powers. As well as that, as per the usual structure, players must also gather gold, which they can later use to fashion new items from the shop and even purchase new champions to help sway the battle in either favor. Once one of the camps has been destroyed and all its forces eradicated — the conquering team wins the match. Simple enough.

YouTube Video

Game Modes Explained

Typically, Honor or Kings will be played in a 5v5 format, with each player taking on the role of one of the available champions. Once picked, the board is in play, and the two teams will battle it out using a combination of teamwork and efficiency. Similar to other heavy-hitters under the MOBA category, players will have to work together to divide and conquer the map, ultimately working to band together at the final location for a swing at the enemy core. Destroy the core — claim the match.

One thing that separates Honor of Kings from other big titles in the eSports domain is the platform it's played on. And, rather than being a jack-of-all-trades sort of deal with multiple ports to absorb, both Honor of Kings and its Western counterpart are only played on iOS and Android, with the latter being the preferred choice for competitive matches.

Tournaments & Prize Pools

Putting our scope on China for a moment, it is worth pointing out that Honor of Kings, unsurprisingly, is a pretty big deal as far as eSports goes. Outside the heart of the platform, however, it's not quite as financially boosted or as popular as the mothership. That being said, it is a worthy contender that you should definitely keep on the radar. And with that, we'll turn to the tournaments and prize pools that the whole world both understands and coincides with.

Honor of Kings World Championship Cup 2020, to put it plainly, was the main event that effectively carried the weight of the game last year. With Shanghai and Beijing both stringing together the best players on the market, twelve teams were able to bind together for a spot among the greats, with an overall prize pool of ¥32,000,000 (roughly $5,000,000) up for grabs.

The World Championship Cup kicks off with two divisions of six teams, with the top four from each bracket advancing to the playoffs. Following on from that, single teams are eliminated on track to the Grand Final, where the final two teams battle it out for the lion's share of the prize pool. The teams that fail to secure a place on the podium, as per the usual routine, walk away with a smaller percentage of the overall pool.

With ¥32,000,000 up for grabs, it's no wonder gamers are investing time into Honor of Kings.

Stacking Against the Odds

Sinking into Honor of Kings, admittedly, can seem a little daunting at first — especially when gazing in from an outsiders perspective. However, understanding the nooks and crannies of the MOBA platform is, and always will be, the best foot to put forward before wrapping your head around anything else the game employs. And with that, it's crucial to spend a lot of time covering the basic details of how they work and the goals that entwine them.

Of course, filling the knowledge bank with all things arena-based is merely a stepping stone en route to understanding Honor of Kings in its entirety. Other things to take into account are the players, as well as the top teams that reinforce the annual championships. And luckily, Liquipedia provides such a benefit, with stats locked to each and every unique user from the past and present tournaments around the world. So, having the facts and figures at your fingertips, anyone can simply latch on to the community and bulk up with experience. And then, of course, there's playing the game for yourself and seeing what makes it tick. That's always a plus.

Finished with Honor of Kings? Looking to gain an edge elsewhere? Why not take a look at one of these:
