PlayStation VR 2 Will Not Be Backwards Compatible
Sony has announced that the upcoming PlayStation VR 2 model will not be backwards compatible, meaning anyone who owns older PSVR titles will not be able to access them come launch day.
The PlayStation VR 2 is shaping up to launch in the first quarter of 2023. As for the exact date it'll arrive, though, is another question. That said, a recent podcast did shed light on a few things, one of which was the possibility of the new tech being backwards compatible with earlier PSVR software. Unfortunately, though, Sony didn't give listeners the best response to such a burning question, saying that it won't be getting it. Like, at all.

“PSVR2 has much more advanced features…”
“PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2, because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience,” said Hideaki Nishino, SVP of Platform Experience, during a recent podcast. “PSVR2 has much more advanced features like all-new controllers with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, as I said, and inside-out tracking, eye-tracking in it, 3D audio is coming together […] So this means, developing games for PSVR2 requires a whole different approach than the original PSVR. These features actually enable developers to create the worlds that feel more vivid and alive and bring players closer to the gameplay experience than ever.”
Of course, this doesn't mean that future remakes and remasters are completely out of the question. But as it stands, OG PSVR users are going to have to get their kicks in the same place as before. The PSVR2 is en route, though recent events indicate that it won't be bringing its predecessor with it.
