Spy Thriller Puzzler I Expect You To Die 2 Comes To VR In 2021

Updated on

Schell Games, the studio behind the acclaimed VR Spy-Themed Escape Room, I Expect You To Die, announced that its sequel will be coming out sometime later this year. The developers unveiled the sequel, I Expect You To Die 2: The Spy and The Liar earlier this week. The mouthful name is derived from the quote from 1964's Goldfinger of the James Bond series, delivered by the titular antagonist.

As of the time of writing, the game is only listed on its Steam page, which indicates the game will have support for HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. In a prepared statement, Project Director Charlie Amis at Schell Games said the team plans to “improve and expand upon the mechanics and characteristics” of the original game. “New and returning players will experience new puzzles in fully immersive environments, complete with an in-depth storyline that makes the thrill of being an elite, super-spy a reality,” he said.

The story of The Spy and The Liar has a player take the role of the Agent from the previous game thought to be dead by the Zoraxis; nefarious global weapons and pharmaceutical corporation. Using this information to their advantage, the Agency sends you undercover into Zoraxis to uncover the diabolical scheme for world domination. In this game, the players will be introduced to more villains who have pledged their allegiance to Dr. Zor, the main villain of the previous game and the Agency's top priority.

Players will be armed with telekinetic abilities, just like the previous game, and must use their cunnings to manipulate objects and solve the puzzles in these brand new missions. For the original game's innovative design, Schell Games had built physical versions of some of its levels out of cardboard for prototyping, and it seems they continued to build on that unique take of level design.

I Expect You To Die made a revenue of $6 million throughout all the VR platforms, $2 million of which had come from its Oculus Quest version. This makes it a safe bet to expect I Expect You To Die 2 to be released on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and Quest soon. With the success of the previous game on Quest, there is a strong incentive to have a version for Facebook's latest standalone headset, Quest 2, as well.
